Typing all types of papers for all types of people
As the end of the semester draws near, many UNL
students are turning elsewhere to have their papers typed.
For the past nine years, Terri Harlan, a former UNL
secretary, Avis Siebert, a National Business Institute
graduate, and Gloria Butterfield, a former UNL secre
tary, have been in the business of typing students' term
papers.
"This is the busiest time of the year. This business
is really very seasonal," Butterfield said.
Each of the typists estimate that they type more
than 10 papers per week jusf beTore the end of each
semester and have had to turn down people because of
the lack of time.
Although the three typists advertise in the Daily Ne
braskan and in the Nebraska Union, they, said that word-of-mouth
is probably the best way to get business.
"I am amazed at the inability some students have in
writing a paper," Sieberit said. "Students should learn
to communicate their ideas."
Siebert not only types papers but also makes sure
that sentences are written properly, spelling is correct,
paragraphs make sense and footnotes are done correctly.
"I consider myself as a professional. I take it seriously.
I don't consider it a hobby," she said.
"I enjoy typing because I think young people are
terrific and challenging. They have so many new con
cepts and ideas," she said.
Harlan, Siebert and Butterfield require that the paper
be proofread before it is left with them to be typed.
"I haven't had too many complaints," Harlan said.
Most of the papers typed have been for UNL students,
and the types of papers vary.
"I've typed papers for students in every college,"
Siebert said.
