Massengale joins scholarship board
UNL Chancellor Martin Massengale was named to the
National Merit Scholarship Corporation's Board of Direc
tors Nov. 22.
Massengale will join business and educational leaders
on the 20-member board chaired by John S. Reed, who
is chairman of Santa Fe Industries. Members of the
board serve a three-year term.
The scholarship corporation is a non-profit organiza
tion that conducts the annual National Merit Scholarship
Program. The program recognizes top high school stu
dents throughout the United States and awards scholar
ships financed by grants from over 600 corporations,
company foundations, professional organizations, col
leges and universities.
Over 18,000 Merit Scholarship winners are enrolled
in undergraduate study at about 675 U.S. colleges and
universities.

Police Report
The following calls and
complaints were received by
UNL police between 7 a.m.
Friday and 7 a.m. Sunday.
Friday:
3:45 p.m. - Officer was
hit by a frozen orange at the
NU-Oklahoma football
game; he was taken to
Lincoln General Hospital.
3:49 p.m. - Officer
found an intoxicated male
who was injured at Ninth
and U streets. The officer
remained with the man until
a Lincoln police officer
arrived on the scene.
5:47 p.m. - Two persons
were arrested for attempting
to steal a maintenance cart
from the Musco Light Co.
on the southeast side of
Memorial Stadium.

from woman on southeast
side of Memorial Stadium.
6:09 p.m. - Person driv
ing while intoxicated report
ed at 17th and Holdrege
streets.
6:40 p.m. - A section of
a goal post was found in and
recovered from Broyhill
Fountain.
7:02 p.m. - Report of
an intoxicated male in a
fountain at 15th and S
streets.
7:20 p.m. - Disturbance
reported in the Nebraska
Union when an intoxicated
male refused to leave. He
left when an officer arrived.
8:13 p.m. - Hit-and-run
accident reported in parking
Area 1 at 17th and Q
streets.
10:10 p.m. - License
plate reported stolen from
an auto in thie area of 17th
and R streets.
11:19 p.m. - Vandalism
reported at NETV. Lamp
globes were being thrown at
cars.
Saturday:
12:27 a.m. - Traffic sign
reported stolen at 15 th and
S streets. The sign was later
recovered.
12:10 p.m. - Wallet re
ported lost or stolen in the
area of Memorial Stadium.
11:23 p.m. - Burglary
reported in Love Library.
Five males were found in
building by patrol officer.
