John Brandstetter
Baritone Brandstetter
sings classical works
One of America's top young baritones will
sing tonight in Kimball Recital Hall at 8. John
Brandstetter, a native of Wayne and a UNL
graduate, had the lead role of Edvard Grieg in
the New York City Opera's production of "The
Song of Norway" last year. He also toured the
country for the opera company's performances
of'LaTraviata."
Brandstetter will be accompanied on piano
by Gary Magby. He will perform pieces by
Handel, Strauss, Ravel, Bizet, Respighi and Ives.
Brandstetter's 1982-83 season also includes
the New York City Opera's performances of
"Madame Butterfly" and "La Boheme" in New
York City and Los Angeles, "The Barber of
Seville" with Rochester Opera, "La Traviata"
with the Opera Theater of St. Louis. "Faust"
in Omaha, concerts with the Lincoln Sym
phony and Northeastern Pennsylvania Phil
harmonic and recitals across America.

at Kimball on Sunday
"Two Classical Quintets for Piano and Wind"
will be performed Sunday at 3 p.m. in a free concert
at Kimball Recital Hall. The first quintet is by.
Mozart, the second by Beethoven.
Gary Echols, bassoonist, Robert Jenkins, oboist,
and James Wehrman, horn player are faculty
members of the UNL School of Music. Sheri
Ericksen, pianist, is a UNL student and a graduate of
Michigan University. Anthony Pasquale, clarinetist,
is on the faculty of Union College.

Quartet to perform
at Sheldon concert
The Lincoln Friends of Chamber Music
will present the second concert of its
1982-83 season Saturday night when
the Ko-Kela Piano Quartet will perform
in Sheldon Art Gallery at 8.
The ensemble takes its name from
the Sioux Indian word meaning "to make
sound." The musicians comprising the
quartet are Clayton Haslop, violinist,
James Bonn, pianist, Ronald Copes,
violinist, and Peter Rejto, cellist.
Following the performance, which will
include pieces by Mozart, Schumann and
Dohnanvi, there will be a reception in
the gallery with tea, coffee and cookies.
