"Student loans haven't been cut. I support student loans for those who need it." Daub, a Republican, is running for his second congres sional term. He received his undergraduate degree in business administration from Washington University in St. Louis and his law degree from UNL. He and his wife Cindy have three children, Tammy, 8, John, 10, and Natalie, 12. Daub said the economic picture will be brighter for young people graduating from high school and college in the next few years. "Young people are entering a work force that is shrinking," he said. "The baby boom is over. Job op portunities will be better." Daub said he supported aid to El Salvador in "mo dest sums. If we don't give a certain amount of aid, the Cubans and the Marxists will be able to say, 'See, Ameri ca doesn't care about you. They've turned their backs on you.' " Daub said he thinks the El Salvadoran government has the support of the people of El Salvador. "Clearly they do, or they (the government) wouldn't be in power," he said. Daub said a Socialist or Marxist government in El Salvador would be detrimental to U.S. interests. "Our country's vital interests can't be well-served by a Marxist or Socialist government," he said. Daub said he thinks Israel should withdraw its troops from Lebanon. "Lebanon ought to be Lebanon and everyone, in cluding the Syrians and the Israelis, should get out," he said, Daub would not say if he thinks the United States should cut off aid to Israel, but he did say that no nat ion should be given preferential treatment in obtaining aid from the United States.
