under the east stands at Memorial Stadium, has a crushed-rock surface that must be watered down daily. The
athletic department does not have enough time durina the football season to keep the track la shape, sa&Tona
Simons, assistant sports information director. The track was built In 1923 when the east stadium was constructed.

Mayor will speak
at free health fair
The Malone Center, 2032 U St., is sponsoring a free
health fair Friday beginning at 10 a.m.
Lincoln Mayor Helen Boosalis will open the fair with
a brief speech.
State Sens. Dave Landis and Ernie Chambers also will
speak.
Ishma'el Jamal, the founding director of the institute
of self-healing in East Orange, N.J., will speak at 10:30
a.m. on "Ethno-Medicinal Alternatives to Drugs: An
Afro-Centric Perspective."
In addition, a UNICEF representative will show the
film "Cradle of Humanity" at 2 p.m. and at various times
throughout the day, by request.
The state Department of Health will provide an Apple
Computer that has health quizzes available for students
to take.
Forty-five health-related booths also will be set up at
the center and refreshments will be provided.

How does it work?
If you're selected for a Physician Scholarship-from the Army, Navy, or
Air Force-you're commissioned as an officer in the Reserve.
While you're in school, you'll serve 45 days a year on active duty, gaining
valuable medical experience. After graduation, you will serve three or more
years, the length depending on the requirements of the Service selected and
years of scholarship assistance received.
As an Armed Forces physician you'd receive officer's pay and benefits,
and enjoy the advantages of working regular hours. You'll also see a diversity
of patients and have opportunities to use sophisticated medical technology.
But most important, while youre in medical school we'll help pay the bills.
