That's how Nebraska volleyball Coach Terry Pettit described his team's 4-0 march through this weekend's Nebraska Invitational Tournament, which featured three ranked teams. "It was obviously a very good tournament for us," Pettit said after the 19th-ranked Huskers beat Southwest Missouri State 13-15, 15-5; 15-12, 15-9 to win the cham pionship. "We found out that when we position ourselves, and set up a good block, we can play good volleyball," Pettit said. "We've got a very good, strong block, and when you can block and play defense, you don't even have to have a great attack to win." yil Ji-N. Dean scored 23 kills during the Huskers' Friday evening win against Southwest Missouri State, 15-3, 15-6, 11-15, 15-3. Earlier that day, Nebraska outlasted 14th-ranked Texas A&M 16-14, 12-15, .16-14, 16-18, 15-8. Saturday morning, Nebraska got revenge on the Univer sity of California-Santa Barbara, defeating the Gauchos 15-5, 15-9, 15-8. Thursday evening, Nebraska had lost its only match of the season to the eighth-ranked Califor nians. "Thursday, we discovered we could play with them," Pettit said. "We beat them in every category except the score Thursday. This time, I think our people came in thinking 'we're better than them.' "They (UC-Santa Barbara team members) were not playing bad, but we just came out and intimidated them that first set. After that, they just kind of backed off," he said. "It was a good tournament for all of our players," Pettit said. "The reserves came in and played very well also." "But if I had to single.out one player, I'd have to say Mary Buysse. She did an exceptional job leading the team." Pettit said the sophomore from Marshall, Minn., played the best volleyball she has played since coming to Nebraska.
