Thursday, September 23, 1982 Daily Nebraskan Page 13 VNL softhall team seeks consistency in Creighton tourney Despite a disappointing seventh-place finish at the University of Texas-Arlington Invitational last weekend, Nebraska Softball Coach Nancy Plantz remains optimistic that her team will rebound successfully at the upcoming Creighton Invitational. "We didn't play well," said Plantz about her teams 2-3 performance at UT-Arlington. "But I think our team morale is fine now. The team is determined to play much better." Although the Creighton Invitational is not a major one, Plantz said she wants Nebraska to bring home the championship. Creighton, UNO, Northwest Missouri State and the Huskers are the four teams that will compete in the round-robin tournament to be played Friday and Saturday in Omaha. Plantz said for the Huskers to repeat as Creighton Invitational Champions (who tied with Creighton last fall), the team must produce good hitting and effective pitching to keep opposing batters off balance. The major area of concern for Plantz as she prepares her team for the Creighton Invitational is defensive consistency. The Huskers committed six errors against Oklahoma during a 6-0 Comhuskers loss at the Texas Arlington Invitational. " "I expect us to be better, but it's still early," Plantz said of the team's 4-3 record. "It doesn't concern me yet (this inconsistency), but if we keep it up it will. We have not even come close to reaching our potential yet. I look for us to get better though." UNL is scheduled to play UNO Saturday at 10:30 ajn. in the tournament and will face Creighton at 3:30 pjn. that day.
