The series uses music and movement to teach language arts and social skills to children in kindergarten through third grade. "We developed the idea for the show in answer to needs in music instruction," he said. "All that was available was the stand-in-front-of-the-camera-and ex plain (type of show). We felt music should be an integrated part of the curri culum, that it should be (treated) as part of every thing else in life." Like all Nebraska edu cational programming, the series will be broadcast on the network schedule so individual schools can tape the shows at the time of broadcast and them at their convenience. Walsh said he considers "Strawberry Square" unique because it uses music to aid in the teaching of many primary goals of schools, such as developing a strong self-image, adjust ing to a school setting from a family setting and developing good communi cation skills. Mike Feduk, the NETV executive producer of the "Strawberry Square" series, is now working with the second set of 33 episodes. Feduk said he expects that the expansion of the show to a national level will allow for an increase in the quality of the show and more location shooting. The Office of Instruc tional Television has also developed "Think About," an integrated approach to the- teaching of science skills, and "Land Treasure," a series to teach pre-reading skills to kindergarten child ren. "Success in the Job Market" teaches senior high school students how to srite a resume and how to get along in interpersonal relationships.
