He also was on the United States national youth team in 1977 and the U.S. team last year. Richards said the crew is revamping its training techniques. "We've been adapting different methods," Richards said. "We're going to be doing what the Eastern schools are doing. Everybody's rowing the same way now." The crew has, three meets scheduled this fall. The first is in Lawrence, Kan., Sept. 25. Other teams in the meet are Kansas, Kansas State, Creighton and possibly Notre Dame. The team will then travel to Boston for a meet in October. The final meet of the fall season will be in Omaha at the end of October. The crew is a club sport but competes at the varsity level. It supports its activities with donations, dues from crew members and activities such as bake sales. After the fall season the team will train indoors for the winter. "Most of the training during the winter is just im proving on your strength and lung capacity," Richards said. "I'd say that outside of Wisconsin, which has a varsity program, we are as good or better than the rest of the programs in the Midwest," Richards said. "It's quite a challenge, but it could pay off in the spring." Bass player interested in joining amateur rock band. 783-3671. Ask for Mike.
