A study released Friday by the Neb
raska Coordinating Commission for Post
secondary Education shows that use of
classroom and laboratory space at UNL
is lower than that at UNO.
But when compared with other uni
versities across the country, UNL is doing
fairly well, said Bob Pazderka, director
of facilities, management and planning
at UNL.
Based on a norm of 30 average hours
per week of classroom use, UNL was
shown to use classroom space an aver
age of 25.37 hours per week and UNL
an average of 36.73 hours per week.
The higher use of classroom space
at UNO is attributed overall to the fact
that the university is forced to make the
best use of its space because of over
crowding, said William Fuller, executive
director of the commission in an article
printed Friday in the Lincoln Journal.
UNL has been shown to be both higher
and lower than other classroom use av
erages in the Big Eight and Big Ten sch
ools in a separate comparison conducted
by university officials, Pazderka said.
Pazderka said the University of Kansas
uses classroom space an average of 34
hours per week.
