Harassment suffered
As I was walking back to my residence
in Abel Hall one day last week, I was
bombarded with obscenities and verbal
harassment from members of a fraternity.
They were looking out from a second-story
window of their house, and I wasn't the
only one subjected to their harassment.
This "brought to mind an incident last
winter in which a snowball was thrown at
me from members of the same fraternity as
I came back from playing basketball at the
Coliseum. At that time I also saw these
fraternity members hit a young woman in
the face with a snowball. I, nor anyone else
that I know of, had done anything to
warrant such actions.
Are these fraternity members the stu
dents that Gov. Charles Thone said
"emerge as America's leaders?" According
to an article in the April 16 Daily Nebra
skan, he also said that every national frat
ernity is founded on a high set of values
and principles. If these values and princi
ples include verbal harassment and throw
ing things at passersby, then I'm glad I'm
just a "dormie." Incidents like this make
the term "frat-rat" seem increasingly more
appropriate .

Union input welcome
I wish to respond .to Alice E. Hrnicek's
letter to the editor (Daily Nebraskan, April
27). First of all, I thank her for her
valuable suggestion. The Nebraska Union is
a structure built around serving the univer
sity community. Suggestions such as
Hrnicek's are welcomed by the staff so that
efforts can be made to improve the effect
iveness of union services.
I also want to inform you that efforts
are linger way to renovate the South Crib.
We are presently in the planning stage, and
anyone with suggestions may direct. them
to the Nebraska Union Board.
Lastly, I think it's unfortunate when
someone has a complaint concerning
campus services that they write to the
Daily Nebraskan. It seems to me that it
would be both more effective and more
constructive to go directly to the people in
volved. I don't think that the Daily Ne
braskan is capable of putting up lights in
the Crib.
