Former student sought for alleged
theft of fraternity's funds, forgery
An arrest warrant is out for a former
UNL student who allegedly stole more
than $13,900 from his fraternity when
serving as the house treasurer.
Richard Lee Partaka, 20, of Grand
Island was the treasurer of Triangle Frat
ernity, 1235 N. 16 St. He is accused of
writing approximately 19 checks to himself
and forging several others between April
28, 1981 and Jan. 26, 1982. The checks
were drawn on the fraternity bank account
at the National Bank of Commerce.
Partaka left the university after the fall
semester.
An affidavit for Partaka's arrest warrant,
filed last Friday with the Lancaster County
Court, said the embezzled checks totaled
more than $10,000.
Additionally, the affadavit said, Partaka
forged the signature of the Triangle alumni
president to write himself checks totaling
$3,900 last December. One check, dated
Dec. 29, was written for $2,000.
The information for the affadavit was
provided by UNL Police Investigator Bob
Fey.
Partaka is being charged with theft by
deception and second degree-forgery, both
felonies.
