Tuesday, April 27, 1982 Daily Nebraskan Page 5 IfT" 1 liS Letters Crib poorly lit for study While attending UNL the past four years, I, like other students, have forced myself to read far more than my eyes could comfortably handle. During my sophomore year, I developed severe headaches and discovered that I needed glasses. For one year, I wore Hfocals to help me read. And a year ago, I shed the bifocals because I needed glasses full tjme. If one must read a lot, at least that person should have good lighting conditions. There is one place on campus where many students study that doesn't have decent light ing. I'm talking about the Crib in the Nebraska Union. How can a room with stagelighting and a black ceiling be bright enough for reading? Until this year, I often studied in the Crib because I preferred the low rumble of noise to the stark quiet of the library. But now, after even five minutes in the Crib, my eyes go bonkers. I'm not blaming the Crib for my eye troubles. How ever, I think there are others who think that it is poorly lit, and there are some who don't realize what that bad lighting is doing to their sight. Although I am soon to graduate, I would like to see the room brighter. Perhaps a white or lighter ceiling would help. That wouldn't cost too much to save our sight. Alice E. Hrnicek Senior Journalismeconomics Inman a 'driving force' The surprise resignation of Admiral Bobby Inman from his post as deputy director of the CIA fills me with an unmitigated horror. At a time when we are suffering per haps the worst global situation in our history (detente, the arms race, the Middle East crisis and the Falkland Islands dispute), we can ill afford to lose a man of Inman 's caliber. He is perhaps the greatest intelligence operative in the world. He has often been the driving force behind many of the highest classified intelligence discoveries of our time. Although he denies any conflict with his former boss, William Casey, director of the CIA, it is no secret that there is no love lost between Inman and the Reagan ad ministration. Inman was coerced into resigning his position as director of the National Security Agency to become deputy director of the CIA, a position change he was vehemently opposed to. He spoke out for the rights of the U.S. citizen when he opposed giving the CIA wider powers inside the United States. In fact, he threatened to resign if such a measure Give the gift of love. .American Heart 1 a WE'RE FIGHTING FOR YOUR LIFE If you've served in the military, there's a tremendous opportunity waiting for you in the Air National Guard. It has been said that Inman knew everything about intelligence and nothing about politics. If that is true, his resignation with scanty explanation perhaps indicates that his personal convictions would not let him knuckle under to the petty , egotistical and political methods of his Wash ington superiors. Anyone who can draw the amount of praise that Inman has had from people such as Sen. Henry Jackson, Air Force General Keegan, former CIA director Stansfield Turner and Sen. John Warner cannot be considered a small loss to our intelligence network, or to the safety of the United States. I know that I for one will sleep less soundly at night when he steps down. It seems a shame that politics has to interfere and obstruct the professionalism of a man who is truly con cerned with the safety of our country and its friends.
