English 298, a five-week, one credit hour course, titled, "Methods for English Studies," will be taught by Jim Ford, a visiting English instructor at the university. "You always hear students complaining teachers as sign them research papers, but don't teach them how (to write them), " Ford said. Ford described the course as an organizational method of doing research in the library which can be used for writing research papers. Ford said most people who teach library research show the student the parts of the library, such as the card cata log and the reference materials, and then tell the student, "do research." Ford's method, which he said will be published as a textbook, integrates principles of research with principles of writing. Ford said the course is aimed at students in the Tea chers College, English majors, as well as foreign language and linguistics majors, although it could be useful for anybody in the humanities. Kate Adams, assistant professor of libraries, will also be teaching a research methods mini-course tliis fall. The course, SC456, titled "Bibliographic resources," is for speech communication majors. The one credit hour course "is mostly for grad students," Adams said. Jim KJumpp, associate professor of speech communi cation, said the course is aimed specifically at helping speech communication students find and use library sources pertinent to their studies. For those students wanting only to familiarize them selves with Love Library, the library's general service division sponsors library tours year-round, Adams said. Under Option Three the pavement would be narrowed from 67 ft. to 58 ft. This option would also eliminate raised me dians in the vicinity of 48th and Van Dorn streets. George Williamson, a Lincoln engineer, pointed out the advantages of Option Three. "This will cost $220,000 less than the other option," Williamson said. ($580,000 as opposed to $800,000.) "We will also need less land for the right of way." The other option, called a No Build Option, would provide for the construction of storm sewers and the replacement of old pavement. Williamson said the project would not be completed before winter. Roger Servern, representing Van Dorn Plaza, and Jim Gaylord, owner of the Ken tucky Fried Chicken at 48th and Van Dorn, both supported Option Three. John Dupont, director of transpor tation for the Lincoln Chamber of Com merce, noted the fears of some business men that the construction could disrupt their businesses but added, "We are satis fied that a majority of businesses can live with this disruption if the city works with them to minimize the disruptions. We urge the council to approve Option Three as the fairest solution to the pro blem." Ed Perry of the Union Bank and Trust Company said his company's drive-in I facility at 48th and Normal would lose business if Option Three was adopted. "It's a drive-in facility and if you can't get to it by car it's not going to be much use to the customer," Perry said. He said there are other banking facilities the cus tomers will go to. Perry said his company supports the No Build Option. Don Haas, part owner of a laundromat at 48th and Normal, said his business would be hurt by raised medians. "I'm all for the widening of the street," Haas said, "but I don't want the median. That's a long way for people to drive and they just won't do it." this week at joh::ws lounge thursoa Double Header Stagette Night Back Again by Popular Demand FINEST HOUR Top 40 and Rock V Roll Doors Open at 6:00 p.m. No Reservations -- GIRLS Come Early so You Don't Get Shut Out.
