Area bands
to perform
Three Lincoln bands, the
Ivrratics, the Untouchables
and the Movie Eyes, will
perforin tonight at Pershing
Auditorium beginning at
6:30. Admission will be
charged.
Two UNL jazz ensembles
will perforin music of the
big bands at 8 p.m. Satur
day in Kimball Recital Hall.
The concert will be dir
ected by Rusty White,
assistant professor of string
bass and jazz performance,
a new member of the UNL
School of Music faculty.
White has studied at North
Texas State and the Last
man School of Music and
has performed as jazz bassist
with Buddy Rich, Paul Norn
and Cat Collins.
The program will include
works from the 1940s
through the 1980s, includ
ing selections by Boyd Rac
burn, Count Basic and
Woody Herman. Newer
works will feature music by
Tashiki Akiyashi, Thad
Jones and Rob McConnell.
UNL Collegiate Band will
present a free outdoor con
cert at 3 p.m. Sunday in
front of Kimball Recital
Hall.
The program is of music
of a nationalistic flavor
characteristic of concerts
played in band shells across
the country, and will in
clude marches, patriotic
melodies and music with an
American theme.
In case of inclement
weather, the concert will be
inside Kimball. People
attending should bring their
own chairs or blankets.
