The Nebraska baseball team continued its domination
of North Central Conference schools with a pair of vic
tories over UNO Tuesday. The Huskers defeated the Mav
ericks 7-1 and 2-1. That makes Nebraska's record 5-0

In the first game Nebraska pounded out nine hits. The
Huskers got their first run in the second inning when Dan
Tomich drove in Steve Stanicek with a sacrifice fly.
Stanicek continued his torrid hitting with two hits in
three at bats in the first game. For the day Stanicek was
three for six, raising his batting average to .483.
Nebraska picked up four more runs in the sixth inning
on three doubles, a single and a walk.

Mavericks got their run in the fourth when Jeff Goetz
drove in Dave Poulicek with a single up the middle. Pou
licek, UNO's career home run and RBI leader, scored the
Mavericks' only two runs of the day.
In the bottom of the sixth Stanicek got on base by an
error. Roger Hill walked, moving Stanicek to second. Pol
lowing a fly out Harold Bright hit a single to center. The
ball was misplayed by center fielder John Taylor, allowing
both Stanicek and Hill to score. Todd Oakes pitched the
last two innings to pick up the win. Tom Holmes picked
up the win in the first game.
"We came close enough to losing the ball game to
know we don't want to lose," Nebraska Coach John
Sanders said.
