SENATE REPRESENTATION BASED ON TYPES OF LIVING UNITS PROPOSAL I The ASUN Constitution provides for the election of currently 35 senators in proportion to the enrollment in each of the univeristy's colleges. The proposed amendment would elect 35 senators in proportion to the population in each of the three University recognized types of living units: 1) FraternitiesSororitiesCooperatives; 2) Off -Campus Housing; 3) Residence PRESENT Article V, Section 1 .A.1 . Elected Members. The elected members (of the Student Senate) shall be chosen by direct appointment from the colleges in accordance with Article VI below. Article V, Section 1 .B.1 .a. (A Senator must . . .) Be a regularly enrolled member of the college he proposes to repre sent and agree in writing to resign if he should terminate his enrollment in that college dur ing the term of office for which he seeks election. Article VI, Section 1 .E.3. Reappointment. The Electoral Commission shall reapportion by direct apportionment the representation of the Student Senate among the several colleges of the University accord ing to the enrollment of the second semester. Yes, I am for the proposed amendment. No, I am against the proposed amendment. Daily Nebraskan PROPOSED AMENDMENTS PROPOSED Article V, Section 1 .A.1 . Elected Members. The elected members shall be chosen by direct apportionment from the recognized types of living units for students of the University in accordance with Article VI below. Article V, Section 1 .B.1 ja. Be presently living in the type of recognized living unit heshe proposes to represent and agree in writing to resign if heshe should change the type of living unit during the term of office for which heshe seeks election. Article VI, Section 1 .E.3. Reapportionment. The Electoral Commission shall reapportion by direct apportionment the representation of the Student Senate among the three recognized types of living units of the University: Sororities, Fraternities, and Cooperatives; University Residence Halls; and Off -campus Housing. This is according to the percentage of students living in each type of living unit at the beginning of first semester. The apportionment shall be completed and the results publicized by the first day of November. (The above Amendments will become effect ive as of the General Student Elections in Spring.) ABSENTEE AND DISABLED BALLOTS A copy of the sample ballot shall be used for absentee and disabled ballots. Absentee Ballots. Students who will not be in Lincoln, Nebraska during the time the polls are open because they are on officially recognized University trips may, by stating the official function on Form N supplied by the ASUN secretary and having their signature notarized by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 1982, be permitted to vote by absentee ballot. Disabled Ballots. Disabled shall mean unable to attend class due to confinement at the Student Health Center or a hospital. Students so disabled shall call the ASUN secretary (472 2581) before noon of election day, March 3, 1981, and arrangements will be made for voting. STUDENT FEE FUND B. SURVEY ASUN is surveying student opinion on the Fund B portion of student fees. This is strictly a survey which will help enable ASUN representatives to further realize student sentiment on stu dent fees. Debt Service $18.00 University Health Center $34.70 Nebraska Unions $12.68 Recreation Programs & Facilities . $ 5.63 1 . Do you approve $18.00 of your student fees being collected to support the Debt Service for financing the Nebraska Union, East Union, Health Center and Residence Halls? - YES - NO 2. Do you approve the $34.70 of your student fees being collected to support the operation of the University Health Center? - YES - NO 3. Do you support $12.68 of your student fees being collected to support the Nebraska Unions? - YES - NO 4. Do you support $5.63 of your student fees being collected to support Recreation Programs and Facilities? - YES - NO TO THE ASUN CONSTITUTION SENATE REPRESENTATIVE FOR NON PROPOSAL II The ASUN Senate would be increased in size from 35 elected members to at least 40 elected members. Fifteen percent of the Senate seats must be filled by non-traditional (age 27 and older) and non-white students. If 15 of the Senate seats were not elected from these groups, additional seats would be appointed after the election. PRESENT Article V, Section 1 .A. Composition. The Senate shall consist of thirty-five (35) elected members with voting privileges, the President and First and Second Vice-Presidents of the Assoc., and two faculty representatives, all of whome shall serve with out voting privileges except as hereinafter noted. No Senate member is eligible for an executive or judicial position except as here inafter noted. Yes, I am for the proposed amendment. No, I am against the proposed amendment. Page 7 - TRADITIONALNON - WHITE STUDENTS PROPOSED Article V, Section 1 .A. Composition. The Senate shall consist of at least forth (40) elected members with voting privileges. Additional voting members shall be appointed by the Senate in compliance with Article V, Section 1.A.1.a. The Senate shall further consist of President and First Vice President, Second Vice-President, and two faculty representatives, all of whom shall serve without voting privileges except as here inafter notes. No Senate member is eligible for an executive or judicial position except as hereinafter noted. (Additions to Article V, Sect. 1 .A.1 .) Article V, Section 1 .A.1 .a. The Senate's voting members shall further be composed of at least fifteen (15) per cent nontraditional and nonwhite members in accordance with Article VI below. Article V, Section 1 .A.1 b. In compliance with Article V, Section 1.A.1.a., the Senate shall appoint the neces sary number of students as Senators regard less of proportional requirements. Article VI, Section 1 .E5. (The Electoral Commission shall . . .) Establish regulations and procedures applying to Article V, Section 1 AA 3. at the beginning of first semester, subject to majority approval of the Senate.
