Health center board
discusses insurance

Ihe University IIeflM Center Advisory Board met
Wednesday for "a brainstorming session to decide which
direction to proceed on student insurance policies " said
board chairman Mike Grier.
Grier plans to have a rough draft of the new insurance
contract, which will be written by the student board
members, in two weeks. The board will begin to solicit
bids from various companies in mid-March, he said.
The current UNL student insurance policy, with
Mutual of Omaha, will be broken down and delegated into
sections which will be revised by participating board
members, Grier said. The University of Kansas, Lawrence,
Kans., 1981-82 policy with Blue Cross Blue Shield will be
used as a reference to eliminate, clarify and add things to

Nebraska's policy, Grier said.
"The two main areas we hope to improve are making
the insurance policy easier for people to get and making it
more flexible for students," Grier said. Eventually, he
hopes to have the insurance option included on the UNL
student registration form, so students do not have to go
through an insurance company.
Crier's second goal is to provide a supplementary pro
gram for students who are covered on their parents' polic
ies, as well as a main program for graduate students who
are on their own.
By updating the insurance now, we can have the
policy available for students entering the university next
fall," Grier said.
