The committee's most drastic recom
mendation for the union budget is to cut
$163,000 from the Campus Activities
and Programs office budget.
CPA's recommendation would reduce
many services provided by the CAP office,
according to Sara Boatman, director of
the CAP office.
CAP-East would be eliminated if CFA's
recommended allocation is approved, Boat
man said.
She added that the University Program
Council would not be able to present
any major concerts at the Bob Devaney
Sports Center.
CPA's recommendations also would re
duce CAP's advising function to UPC.
CFA's proposal would allow for one ad
viser to advise all 25 UPC committees.
Currently CAP staff members share these
duties.
Daryl Swanson, director of the Ne
braska Union, said with CFA's recommen
ded cuts the CAP office would lose six
full-time professional staff positions, four
graduate assistants, three clerical workers
and three work-study positions.
Health center requests more funds
Hie University Health Center presented
its 1982-83 budget request of $2,244,787
to the Committee for Pees Allocation
Thursday. This rccjuest of $41.62 per per
son, per semester is $6.92 more than the
health center requested in its 1981-82 bud
get. According to Steve Blom, health center
administrator, the health center requested
a continuance budget to provide the same
services which are currently provided.
The health center requested $6,500 to
hire a psychology graduate student for the
mental health department. According to
Blom, this departnent has had a 25 percent
increase in demand for counseling services.
Blom also requested $3,000 to hire a
part-time secretary for the physical therapy
department.
Any new services offered by the health
center will have to support itself, however,
Blom said.
For the first time in 24 years the health
center requested a salary increase for
health aides. Health aides currently receive
$5 per week. Blom requested a 50 percent
increase to $7.50.
According to Blom, 1981-82 was one of
the first years that the health center had a
health aide in all of the fraternities, sororit
ies, residence halls and co-ops.
The health center probably has the
fewest doctors of all health centers in the
Big Eight partly because of the health
aide program, he said.
The number of health aide applicants
has decreased in the last three or four
years, though Blom said. One reason for
this might be the small salary, Blom said.
Blom said that he would like to decrease
health aides' expenses (by paying for their
tuition) or increase their income
