Registration preparation
The current administration's decision to continue
peacetime draft registration is much more than just
another broken campaign promise; it is more than just
sending signals." Americans should not be encouraged to
believe that peacetime registration is nothing but another
Harmless plot by Washington to put pressure on the
Soviets. Historically, draft registration has been serious
business and we've no reason to believe it should be dis
continued this time around. Registration should always be
kept in the proper perspective - it is preparation for war.

There is a similar temptation to wander around campus
this final semester, gazing vacantly at pretty but non
essential forms of life. Despite popular opinion, however,
the final semester is the time to bear down, not slack off.
I'm not advising a heavy course load. Rather, one ought to
strive to get the most benefit and enjoyment possible out
of these final days in Acadcmia. My classmates who arc
prepared to be laid back tliis semester had better stay out
of my way. I'm going for it.
The subject of this column betrays an acute case of
academic recidivism. That is to say I am a college dropout
who has returned time and again to school, this time to
finally make it through. There are a great variety of
reasons for dropping out, it seems, but few popular ones
for returning.
I hope to report on the changes, for better or worse,
between the university of the 70s and of today. That
half of the undergraduates here probably did not even
start college until after the decade of the 70s was over is a
sobering thought. It seems only a blink of an eye, but it
has been almost 1 1 years since my high school graduation.
Still, I am not the only one in this situation, nor the old
est. I don't think the years will bother me much when I
finally have that mortarboard on my head. I am certainly
going through the graduation ceremonies when the time
arrives. I want some pomp to go with my circumstance.
Editorial policy
Unsigned editorials represent the policy of the spring
1982 Daily Nebraskan but do not necessarily reflect the
views of the University of Nebraska, its employees or the
NU Hoard of Regents.
The Daily Nebraskan's publishers are the regents, who
have established a publication board to supervise the daily
production of the newspaper. According to policy set by
the regents, the content of the UNL student newspaper
lies solely in the hands of its students editors.
