Huskers get by Mizzou. . .
Continued from Ptige S
"The coaches prepared us well, Felici
said. "They didn't do anything that we
weren't expecting. Coach Osborne told us
at half time that the defense might have to
win the game. We felt we could hold them
until the offense got the job done.
In contrast to Nebraska's good field
position in the first half, Missouri spent
most of the half deep in its own territory.
Five times the Tigers started drives in
side their own 20-yard line. Much of this
was due to the punting of Grant Campbell
who had five of his punts downed inside
the Tiger 20-yard line.
The Huskers took the second half kick
off and drove from their 20-yard line to
the Missouri 34 before they were forced to
punt.
After stopping the Tigers, Nebraska got
the ball back and drove to the Missouri 25
yard line where Kevin Seibel missed his
second field goal of the day.
Missouri threatened briefly early in the
fourth quarter when Tiger running back
Bob Meyer broke a 37-yard run and would
have scored if he had not been caught from
behind by defensive end Jimmy Williams.
"I saw him break at least two tackles at
the line of scrimmage ... so I just ran as
fast as 1 could. He was real hard to bring
down the whole day," Williams said.
But once again the Blackshirts rose to
the occasions as Felici sacked Hyde for a
loss of four yards. Then, on fourth down,
Felici forced Hyde to hurry his pass which
fell incomplete.
The Huskers had another chance to
score later in the fourth quarter when

Bates broke a 39-yard run down the
Missouri 23-yard line. The Tigers once
again held and Seibel missed his third field
goal attempt of the afternoon. The Tigers
were unable to move the ball any further
than the 35-yard-line and the stage was set
for the Nebraska's climatic drive of the
afternoon.
The Huskers moved the ball almost ex
clusively through the air, the big plays
being passes of 24 and 21 yards to Todd
Brown.
Roger Craig said Nebraska caught
Missouri off guard on the last series.
"They contained our option well and so
on the last series they expected us to run
and that opened up the pass, Craig said.
"Their defense was penetrating real well
and it took away the option. We knew
sooner or later that it was going to break,
Gill said.
Nebraska Coach Tom Osborne had
praise for the Tigers.
"Missouri played very well, Osborne
said. "They were a different team today
than the team that played Iowa State.
Tiger Coach Warren Powers was natural
ly disappointed.
"It was very tough - a tough way to
lose, Powers said. "They (the "Missouri
players) deserve better than that, but they
didn't get it, and Nebraska deserved to win.
They took that last drive and drove it in
there and scored. That was about it.
