monday, October 19, 1981 daily nebraskan page 9 Gill passes . ' :Sr sx 7 s 1 Continued from Page 8 "We were a little disappointed we could not score there at the early part of the third quarter. We had converted a lot of third down situations with passes and screens and just went down there and missed a pass that would have been a touchdown," Osborne said. The wildcats threatened late in the third period but de fensive end Jimmy Williams threw quarterback Darrell Dickey for a 9-yard loss on a third and six situation, forc ing KSU to settle for a field goal. Second-string quarterback Mark Mauer and wingback Irving Fryar connected on a 49-yard pass early in the fourth period for Nebraska's fifth touchdown. Fryar added a scoring run of five yards and Bruce Mathison plunged over the 1-yard line to account for the final score. Osborne said he was pleased with the Huskers' effort and said the team played "fairly well." "I was pleased with the way we executed on offense. I thought in the first half, even though we shut K-State out, there were a couple of times they knocked us off the ball," Osborne said. "It looked like they ran on us a little better at times than we wanted to see." Kansas State Coach Jim Dickey had praise for Nebra ska, calling the Cornhuskers a "great team." "They always have awesome offensive and defensive lines and their backs look like Oklahoma backs," Dickey said. "I didn't use to think they had great backs but those guys can run." The Huskers committed eight fumbles, losing three of them, but Osborne said part of the credit goes to K-State. "Some of the fumbles we had were because they were really knocking the ball loose. They hit just about as hard as anybody we've played," he said. The Huskers picked up a total of 223 yards passing and 45 1 rushing while the Wildcats gained 50 in the air and 86 on the ground. Rozier topped Nebraska's rushing chart for the day with 153 yards on 15 carries. Williams' 51 yards led the UNL pass receivers. Linebacker Steve Damkroger led the Nebraska Black shirts with four tackles and six assists. The Cornhuskers, after a 1-2 start, are now 4-2 and own a 2-0 record in Big Eight play, good enough for sole possession of the No. 1 spot in the conference standings. "We're clicking now and we're looking good," right tackle Dan Hurley said. "We're looking forward to playing Missouri."
