Residence hall students
wanting a quick lunch or
supper will have two dining
rooms to choose from when
they return from Thanksgiv
ing vacation, according to
Doug Rix, UNL assistant
director of housing food ser
vice. Rix said if all goes
according to schedule, the
Cather-Pound-Neihardt Resi
dential Center dining room
will have a new look on
Nov. 30.
The new look will
include fast food items, self
service for many food items,
two lines for each serving
area and color-coordinated
equipment to match the
dining area, Rix said.
"We're trying to take
some of the drabness away
and get away from the in
stitutionalized look," he
said. "We're trying to meet
today's student's needs."
"The emphasis is on self
service," Rix continued.
"By selecting their own
food, the students get
through faster. The only
potential drawback is that
there is a limited number of
seats. They can only go
through when there are
seats available."
He said part of the
reason the new service is
being installed at Cather-Pound-Neihardt
is to draw
some of the winter lunch
crowd away from the Sel
leck Quadrangle dining
room, which currently has a
fast-food line.
"There are probably 100
to 150 Cather-Pound resi
dents that eat lunch at Sel
leck during the winter," Rix
said. "We're hoping to get
50 to 100 of them back."
Selleck food service man
ager Hannah Hess says at
this point it's hard to tell if
the new self-service line will
There are few careers more exciting than flying jets in
the Air Force. And there are few careers that pay
$14,000 to start, give 30 days vacation with pay each
year, provide worldwide assignments, medical and den

The Air Force does. With benefits like these, you'll be
flying high in the sky . . . your first year! If you're a

Hess said she hopes the
new service will decrease the
crowd at Selleck, but a
person really doesn't know.
If the new system at
Cather-Pound-Neihardt is
successful, Rix said similar
arrangements might be
made at Abel-Sandoz and
Harper-Schramm-Smith resi
dence halls.
However, Rix said there
are several factors that will
be considered before such a
decision is made.
"We put the line in at
Selleck four years ago be
cause it is a small dorm," he
said. "We're not sure if it's
going to work as well in a
bigger dorm, although I
would expect it to.
"Also, we haven't heard
any requests for such a line
from anyone in the Abel
Sandoz and Harper-Schramm-Smith
complex
ex," Rix said.
In addition, Rix said in
stalling new systems in the
other two complexes might
not be economical in the
future.
