A UNL piano and harlsichord professor, Harvey Hin
shaw, will be one of 12 semMinalists competing for top
honors in the 1981 International American Music Compe
tition for Pianists in New York City.
Hinshaw, a faculty member in the School of Music since

Recital Hall. The three finalists will compete Sunday at
1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., in Carnegie Hall.
Hinshaw will perform works bv Charles Ives Joan Pa.
netti, Ruth Crawford Seeger, Lou Harrison and Douglas
AJlanbrook, 20th century American composers, and Schu
mann and Bach, classical composers.

The UNL Symphonic Wind Ensemble will Derform its
first fall concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in Kimball Recital Hall.
The program will include a special arrangement of
'Strike Up the Bank," the overture "La Gazza Ladra " bv
Rossini, the prize-winning Roger Nixon corriDosition. "Pa-
cific Celebration Suite,' one of .Claude Smith's popular
pieces, Joyance," and the "French Militaire March." bv
Saint-Saens, plus two of Sousa's marches.

sor and chairman of the Art Department at UNL will be
featured in a one-man show at the Joslvn Art Museum
in Omaha.
The show will open Tuesday, and will launch the 1981-
82 exhibition season in the Joslyn's salesrental program.
Howard's exhibition is part of the art museum's "Soot-
light Show" series.
Of the 20 works scheduled for exhibition, some 15
paintings have been completed over the past vear and eieht
of those are being shown for the first time in a public ex
hibit. Examples from two recent series of paintings will be
included: samplings from Howard's impressions of the in
teriors of well-known English buildings which he visited
while in Engalnd last year, and the more recent "Bondage
Series," the artist's satirical visual commentary on ele
ments ot sado-masochism.
The public is invited to attend the opening and a receD-
tion for Howard at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The exhibit will be on
view through Oct. 25.
