i friday, September 25, 1981 daily nebraskan page 1 1 Nebraska picked in weekend of predicted upsets It was another week of unset Tn th -j -- v.-, univ nvivil I 113 many as the week before but two top 10 teams, Georgia and Notre Dame, bit the dust. The same should happen this week. Penn State At Nebraska. Nebraska bounced back from the Iowa loss better than almost anyone thought they would, but they face another tough test this week in the Nittany Lions. Penn State enters the game with a higher ranking than the Huskers, but the only team they've played is Cincin nati, a team that has given up 90 points in two games. The MS Lions will find Nebraska's defense tougher than that. Nebraska will likely have a tougher time moving the ball on Penn State than they did against Florida State, but if Roger Craig runs like he did last week, no one can stop him: Nebraska 21 , Penn State 10 Fans polled. . . Continued from Page 10 "Nebraska doesn't have the team they've had the last two years," Stone said. "This is definitely a prestige game. I really feel they (Penn State) want to win this one badly." "Everybody's excited about the game," said Robert Duich, a bartender at Zeno's, a State College, Pa., bar fre quented by students. "We've got a tough schedule this year. If we can win this game, it will give the team some confidence," Duich said. Duich put Penn State to win by 10 points. That was a conservative guess compared to Mike Kerrigan's. Kerrigan, a patron of Zeno's and a senior from Morrisville, Pa., picked the Lions to win by three touch downs. "Nebraska lost , a lot of players and we're a lot better than last year. Last year we had a lot of new guys at the Oklamohm at USC. This might be the first time the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country have played each other this early. Barry Switzer must be wishing it was a lit tle later in the season. The Sooners are always, slow getting out of the gate and last week's open date didn't help mat ters any. USC doesn't have the depth at tailback they did last year due to the graduation of Eric Will, but they still have Marcus Allen. Allen is the Bruce Springsteen of college football - he's The Boss. He is one of those rare players who has the ability to completely dominate a game. Both teams can move the ball so the real test will be defensively. Thee, the Sooners are hopelessly overmatch ed. Chip Banks and Company put the hit on the Sooners: USC 28, Oklahoma 20 BYU at Colorado. Gene McCarthy once said of Sen. Henry Jackson, "If he's elected president you'll never see the sun. The sky will be black with planes." The same could be said of BYU's passing game. Just substitute foot balls for planes. After winning their opener, Colorado returned to form last week against Washington State, giving up two touch downs in two minutes, both on turnovers. skill positions. Now they've got a year's experience," Kerrigan said. Kerrigan said he watched the Nebraska-Florida State game on ESPN. "Nebraska didn't look that good. They scored a lot on fluke plays," Kerrigan said. Kerrigan compared the game to the Penn State-Ohio State game in 1978 which was played in Columbus. Penn State won that one 19-0. "This is a big game," Kerrigan said. "It will be very dis appointing if we lose." Amy Lessing, another customer at Zeno's, was more cautious in her predictions. She picked Penn State to win by six. "Nebraska's no good this year, and we are," Lessing said. Not everyone was excited about the game. A woman who asked not to be identified said, "I don't know any thing about football. I only follow baseball." Scott Ehlers won the men's intramural cross country meet with a time of 12:56. Michael Fertig finished the 2.5 mile course in 13:00 to finish second. Sherry Pinker ton won the women's meet in 17:00 with Barb Stefanski placing second at 18:04. The team of Karen Anderson and Kyle Anderson won the co-recreational title with a combined score of 32:49. The team of Lynn Rosenlof and Mark Davidson placed second in 33:27. Love Memorial Hall won the women's team title with the women's crew club coming in second. Men's team winners were Harper 8 and Farmhouse. The men's swimming and diving team is forming a tim ing team for the upcoming season.
