tuesday, September 22, 1981 daily nebraskan page 7 Recycling centers decrease aluminum can payments Aluminum can prices recently dropped 4 cents a pound at two recycling centers in the Lincoln area. Russell Miller, manager of Nebraska Re cycling, said the. company dropped the price it pays for cans because the Alumi num Company of America dropped the price it pays centers by 7 cents during the last three months. Miller said ALCOA reported that the price probably would not go up for six months. George Easley, president of Siti Sales, a local beer distributor, said his company was also prompted to lower prices because of the ALCOA reduction. Easley also said the greater number of cans brought in dur ing the summer might cause further reduc tions. Representatives of Safeway and D&D Distributor (of Anheuser-Busch products) said they will not reduce the price they now pay. . Dick Knight, Safeway public relations manager, said Safeway will keep the price at one cent a can or about 24 cents a pound. Knight said Safeway entered the recy cling business at the strong recommenda tion of Anheuser-Busch Brewery, Russell said. The price it will pay for the cans will be determined by the brewery. b I Z Photo by Dave Bentz Aluminum cans can be profitable for students to collect, because the aluminum goes for 20 to 24 cents a pound.
