Nebraska baseball coach John Sanders has announced
the signing of 16 athletes to national letters of intent. The
list includes nine high school players and seven junior
college transfers, five of whom were drafted by major
league teams.
The list is topped by Mark Honnor of Lincoln North
east and Jeff Koenigsman of Omaha Creighton Prep.
Honnor, a pitcher and first baseman, compiled a 17-2 two
year record in high school and had a 1.40 earned-run aver
age in Junior Legion play. He also recorded seven shut
outs, gave up 92 hits, walked 45 and struck out 190 in
145 innings in Legion play. As a hitter, Honnor averaged
.326 with 19 doubles, five home runs and 52 RBI's in 56
games. He had a .988 fielding average.
Koenigsman was a captain on Creighton Prep's basket
ball and baseball teams last year, both of which won the
state championship. He had a 0.76 ERA and a .378
batting average. Koenigsman also plays as an outfielder
and was an All-Metro and All-State selection and was
named Most Valuable Player of the BartlesviDe, Okla.
tournament where he played for the Nebraska Federal
Junior Legion team.

Rutherford of Omaha Northwest who had a 0.71 LKA
and an 8-2 record last spring, outfielder Kirk Ilolscher of
Lincoln Northeast, outfielder Rick Kjerstadof of Omaha
Burke, pitcher Mike Dobbs of Lincoln East, outfielder
Randy Smidt of North Platte and Mike Munson of Oxbow
Union High School in Bradford, Vt.
The five players who were drafted are infielder Jeff
Carter (Los Angeles), a freshman from Evanston, 111. who
hit .375 and stole 22 bases last year; infielder Dan Boever
(Cincinnati and Atlanta), a junior college transfer from
Westark College in Fort Smith, Ark.; pitcher Jeff Johnson
(Texas and Milwaukee), from Glendale, Calif.; pitcher
Todd Oakes (St. Louis) from Waldorf Junior College in
Forrest City, Iowa and outfielder Dave Bailor (Kansas
City and Los Angeles) from Yavapai Junior College in
Prescott, Ariz.
Other junior college players signing with UNL are
catcher Mark Frei, a Grand Island native who played at
Cloud County Junior College in Concordia, Kan., and Dan
Tomish, a third-baseman from El Camino College in
Torrance, Calif.
