Students facing the increased cost of higher education
can expect to face more of the same when they purchase
textbooks for upcoming semester classes, according to
textbook store managers.
Jerry Mullinix, textbook department manager for
Nebraska Bookstore at 1135 R St., said price share
increased an average of 10 percent, with price increase of
up to 20 percent in some of the technical science books.
University Bookstore Manager Larry Behrends said
price increases range from 10 to 20 percent for most
textbooks.
Behrends said most price increases come from infla
tionary pressure on the textbook publishers. He attribu
ted little of the increase to local store costs.
Both the city and east campus unions are good places
filled yet. Mullinix said Nebraska Bookstore did not re
ceive any orders for computer science texts until the
first week of August.
Nebraska Bookstore will be open until 9 p.m. for the
first four days of classes. Normal hours are 8 a.m. to
5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and Saturday 9 a.m.
to 5 :30 p.m.
University Bookstore, with stores in the basement of
the city and east unions, will be open until 9 p.m. the first
four days of classes and will then return to regular hours
of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
