friday, april 17, 1981 page 14 daily nebraskan Salaries, By Tricia Waters The UNL Faculty Senate passed two resolutions and heard a report from the College of Business Administrat ion at its monthly meeting this week. Craig MacPhec, associate professor of economics, also reported on the 1981-82 NU Board of Regents budget requests. Although the requested 18 percent increase was "justified and necessary," the university probably will get a 13-percent increase from the Legislature, MacPhee said. To close the gap in salaries between UNL and other American Association of Universities land-grant univer sities, UNL faculty will need a 14 percent salary increase this year, he said. But the administration wants a 105 percent increase in salaries and a 13 percent increase in benefits, which the Faculty Senate had approved earlier, he said. The Senate unanimously passed a resolution reaffirm ing its position that the chief UNL budget priority should be increased wagss and benefits. The resolution, intro duced by Richard Metcalf, accounting professor, also said the 10.5 and 1.5 percent increases should be main tained regardless of a possible decrease in legislative appropriations. Another resolution was passed which changes faculty membership from four to three members on the Univers ity Libraries Committee. Before the resolution was passed, English professor Robert Narveson suggested the Senate consider the reso lution for another month. He said the Senate could then make the library committee as representative and fair as possible. But the resolution passed with a majority vote. Gary Schwendiman, dean of the College of Business Administration, said that about 500 juniors or seniors who wish to enroll in that college cannot do so because it must maintain its teaching quality by restricting enrollment. He said the surge in CBA enrollment during the last 10 years came from the increased enrollment of women. In the fall of 1971, 172 women were enrolled in CBA compared with 1 ,040 in the fall of 1980. Male enrollment has fallen in the college, he said. In the fall of 1971, 1,939 men were enrolled compared with 1,777 in 1980, a difference of 162 men. With high enrollment and a tighter budget, the business college will continue to make yearly program decisions in order to maintain a high quality of education, Schwen diman said. I would like to try to make the editorial page representative of the many diverse opinions on camp us," Prentiss said. "I would like to see an Associated Press wire service added to the paper if it is economic ally feasible.
