Ocean technology to be addressed
Robert Ballard of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute
will deliver the Barhour-Scliramm Memorial Lectures at
UNL Monday and Tuesday.
Ballard recently returned from Africa where he worked

and surface ships. He also is interested in the advanced
technology necessary to work in areas of deep submer
gence. Ballard's three lectures will include one at 10:30 a.m.
Monday in Morrill Hall, 316, titled "The African Rift
Valley System." he will speak at 7:30 p.m. in Morrill Hall
Auditorium on "Exploring Mid-ocean Ridges with
Manned Submarines," and at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday he will
speak in Morrill Hall, 420, on "Volcanic, Tetonic and
