Crew...
Continued from Page 10
At Big Eight schools, where crew isn't
a major sport, the men's and women's
teams are grouped. Shotkoski said the
only schools that separate men's and
women's crew teams are those where crew
is financed by the university as a major
sport.
"At UNL, we're a young team and we
have to stay together to fund ourselves,"
Shotkoski said.
Shotkoski sees the cause of the con
troversy in the system, not in the team
members.
'it's just how people see it or how
they've been brought to sec it," Shot
koski said.
Shotkoski said when the women go to
the boathousc to practice, they encounter
an attitude that they don't belong there.
"We should be able to be in the boat
house and feel like wc belong there,"
Shotkoski said. She added the problem
isn't in the men, but in the way they've
been introduced to crew.
"It needs to be stressed that we need
to work as one team," Shotkoski said.
"We need each other. It's more fun to
do things together, anyway."
