k thursday, january 29, 1981 daily nebraskan page 7 Former attorney general to return Herbert Brownell, a former U.S. attorney general and a 1924 NU graduate, will return to Lincoln Feb. 7-10. For Brownell, counsel to the New York law firm Lord, Day and Lord, this will be his first trip back to Nebraska since 1974, when he returned for the 50th anniversary of his graduation from NU. Brownell's return is in conjunction with the activation ceremonies of the Nebraska Chapter of Delta Upsilon fraternity, where he will speak Feb. 7. He is president of Delta Upsilon International fraternity. In an interview from his New York office last week, Brownell said he is looking forward to his return. "I must say I've always enjoyed my trips to Lincoln -with the family and friends I have there, it will be nice to be home again," Brownell said. He has one sister in Lincoln. Brownell has lived in New York since 1927, after he graduated from Yale University Law School. "It's different (from Nebraska)," Brownell said. "But I must say I've always enjoyed it here. I always go back to Nebraska whenever I get a chance. I still have a loyalty there." Young to speak Feb. 11 for black cultural series By Bob Glissman Former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Andrew Young will speak at UNL Feb. 1 1 as part of a series of programs that will mark the month as a Black Cultural Celebration. Dances, art exhibits and lectures will highlight the cultural celebration said Pat Brown, Black Special Events committee chairperson for the University Program Council. The annual celebration is intended to educate the community to the problems of, and the contributions made, by blacks, Brown said. February marks this year's celebration. "We want to show everyone, not just black students, different aspects of the lives of black people through art and the lectures," she said. Brown said people in Lincoln and on campus aren't aware of those aspects, part ly because of the lack of courses about blacks offered at UNL. "There are some history classes and ethnic studies classes offered, but not many," Brown said. "The celebration will show things that the classes don't teach." After the opening ceremony on Sunday in the Nebraska Union, events during the month will include: -a workshop on time management on Wednesday -a "Gospel Extravaganza" featuring Lincoln's Salem Baptist Church, Feb. 6, on East Campus -a pre-Valentine's Day dance, Feb. 7, on East Campus -a lecture by poet Haki Madhubuti, Feb. 10, at the Nebraska Union -a lecture by Young, Feb. 11, at the Nebraska Union -a "Black Art Exhibit", Feb. 9-13, in the Nebraska Union lounge west wall -a soul food dinner in Cather-Pound cafeteria, Feb. 19 -and a lecture by Gordon Parks, direct or of the movies Shaft, Leadbelly and Learning Tree on Feb. 23, after viewings of his movies. Other events will take place throughout the month, Brown said, but all of these events will not be enough to fully educate people about black culture, she said. "Black students have a lot to offer," Brown said. "I'm really proud of the pro ject this year. There has been a lot of stu dent involvement."
