Men 's indoor track coach
expects close first contest
The men's indoor track
team begins its season at
home Saturday against what
Coach Frank Sevigne calls
a traditionally strong
Southern Illinois team and a
good Kansas State team.
"This is an excellent
meet to start the season
off with," Sevigne said.
"I expect a very close
meet for all three teams."
The Cornhuskers are
coming into the meet warm
ed from the USA Indoor
Championships in Kansas
City, Mo. last week. Pole
vaulter Mark Newton had
a vault of 1 7-4'2, which
is the best in the Big Eight.
His vault also qualified
him for the NCAA Indoor
Champioships March 13 in
Detroit.

put and Randy Raymond
in the pole vault also
qualified with marks of 59
5 and 16-8, respectively.
Other Huskers to watch,
according to Sevigne are
Randy Brooks in the 60
yard high hurtles and Ever
ton Decosta in the 600
yard dash.
"We have a well-balanced
team with many back from
last year, so I expect to have
a strong team this season,"
Sevigne said.
