Dr. Igor Glagolev, who defected to the United States in 1976, said Tuesday night the United States should help resisters organize their opposition groups. "You (the United States) do not need to persuade the people," he said, "but coordinate the opposition." "But it is a lie," he said. Resistence goes on in all different kinds of organizations, Glagolev said. Labor unions, peace committees, universities and even the Communist Party have struggles within them. Four mass movements of opposition exist, he said. National, religious, economic and political resisters are the largest and most visible groups. Many Soviets, Glagolev said, oppose the arms race, war-especially Soviet instigated war-and Communism. Yet, he said, most Soviets join the Communist Party just to be politically active. Memberships in religious and economic opposition groups are much larger than the membership of the Communist party, Glag olev said. Opposition members want religi ous freedom and private ownership, he said. Environmental supporters constitute another large interest group, he said. Soviet newspapers have particularly criticized the Soviet government's environmental policy. The government uses poisonous fuels such as brown coal and uranium for energy needs. The death rate from poisoning in creases two to three percent every year. Without America's help, the politics and policies of the Soviet Union will not change, the leadership of Russia will change, however, because of Soviet Presi dent Leonid Brezhnev's age. Glagolev's speech was sponsored by the Nebraska Young Americans For Freedom and the Young Americans Foundation. t Y Y Y t ? Y ? Y Y Y t Y Y ? Y Y Y ? Y Y Y T Y Y ? Y ? Y Y Y T y ?
