About The daily Nebraskan. ([Lincoln, Neb.) 1901-current | View Entire Issue (Jan. 27, 1981)
-t- tuesday, january 27, 1981 daily nebraskan page 5 J O I was badly misquoted in the Daily Ne braskan's article on the Walk for Life. I never said that the fetus is not alive. Of course it is alive. That has nothing to do with the issue, which is whether the fetus should have the legal status of a human being. I do not think it should. Further. I am quoted as saying the Unitarian Church is in favor of selective abortion. It would be more accurate to say that its members, on the whole, support a woman's right to make decisions regarding her body and re production. Charles D. Claiborn Conception is point In the debate between "Pro-Life" and "Pro-Choice" the Pro-Lifers are for the un born baby's right to lie ami the Pro-Choice people are for the mother's right to a choice. Both groups have a valid point and both are basically right, but neither group is addressing the main point. The main point is: When does a mother's right to a choice end and the unborn baby's right to life begin. It seems to me that this change occurs at conception. That with the act of conception the mother has made her choice. She has forfeited her "right to privacy" and accepted the responsibility of carrying the baby for the full term. Jim Herder Freshman, Engineering Apology to Iran Amidst the celebration of the release of the hostages, let's try to understand why they were taken, and then see if we have reason to celebrate. Iran, you have my most sincere apolo gies. Pat Kozisek Senior Choice means freedom I hadn't been involved. The thought hadn't even occured to me until 1 started talking to a friend working in a pro-choice booth. Legislating whether a woman may or may not have an abortion is legislating choice, one of our freedoms. That's funny. I thought our country was conceived primarily for freedom of choice. Art K. Small Senior Story questionable The Daily Nebraskan has obviously stooped to a new low with Mary Kempkes' front page article in the Wednesday, Jan. 21, edition of the Daily Nebraskan. I really can't sympathize with those who have to "grow their own" to support their habit. Furthermore, the indepth report on these marijuana users including the fascinating picture, was very informative for those of us who don't know the going prices of marijuana. I now know how to grow my own marijuana plants and what to do to get a better "high." Lack of coverage of more newsworthy events, especially on the front page, plus being subjected to reading about the sad financial plight of the mari juana user makes me seriously question the need to increase the Daily Nebraskan's budget next year.
