GLC seeks to strengthen
student lobbying interest
Seeking to involve as manv students as
possible in legislative lobbying efforts,
members of ASUN's Government Liaison
Committee and the Student Advisory
Boards will "adopt" their hometown legi
slators. Adopting a state senator "is a way for
the advisory boards to be more active and
increase their membership," Renee Wes
sels, ASUN president, said.
GLC will be putting together packets on
each senator containing background and
voting information, Nette Nelson, GLC
chairman said.
The student assigned to that state sen
ator or any interested student can consult
the file before meeting with the senator.
An evaluation form also will be filled
out on every student-legislator meeting
and kept on file.
Five lobbying priorities in next year's
UNL budget will be announced at a press
conference next week in the city union.
These points were chosen by the GLC
budget committee, the only student lob
bying organization on the UNL campus.
"We're fighting for the budget as a
whole, spotlighting our priorities," said
Nelson who supports the 18 percent
budget increase.
