ters. Museum banners used
to fix identity crisis
The scarlet and cream banners calling
visitors to the UNL State Museum in
Morrill Hall have developed out of a need
spanning the last 50 years, said the
museum's Acting Director Allan Ciriesemer.
"Previously, unless campus visitors
knew Morrill Hall was a museum, there was
no way they could locate it," Griesemer
said. "A lot of museums post banners for
special displays. We decided to mount the
two banners to identify ours."
The banners, designed by Nathan
Mohler, an exhibit designer and an associ
ate professor of museum, are close to the
university's true colors, Griesemer said.
"Each of the banners cost about S500,
and the mounting came to another $500,"
Griesemer said, adding that developing the
idea took much more time than anyone
had imagined.
"It was a long process." he said. "The
banners had to be approved by the Physical
Plant, landscape architects, the Purchasing
Department and the chancellor."
The Nl! Foundation paid for the fire
proof hangings.
"People now stop us when we leave the
building to ask where they (banners) came
from," Griesemer said.
