These benefits come only from funding the space program-no
vehicle need ever be launched or other spin-off
benefits discovered. Past benefits include such familiar
items as Tang, Teflon and Velcor, many types of medical
equipment with which most of us are not all familiar, and
a great deal of computer hard and software.
Potential benefits include the strong possibility that
the asteroids and some of the planetary moons may be
excellent sources of some metals and other elements we
need which arc in short supply here on Earth or located
primarily in countries which are unfriendly to the USA.
We might even discover a source of cheap energy! The
only way to find out is to do it.
Other possibilities cannot be imagined. I am of the
opinion that we cannot afford not to fund the space pro

Current facts overshadowed
I was amazed at some of the comments made in your
article of Nov. 20. "Black journalists step over the pre
judice barrier." The current facts of life in journalism are
"if you are a minority, great, we want you to work for
us; if you arc a woman, great, we want you to work for
us; and if you are both, that's even better."
Currently, stations are going out of their way to fill the
quotas of women and minorities to meet FCC regulations
concerning Equal Opportunity, some of the strictest in
the country. Therefore I was confused when Mr. Mctoyer
of WOWT told how hard it was for him to "get a foot in
the door."

A bunch of old friends decided to field an intramural football team this fall and have
some fun. They called themselves "The Mondellos" in honor of an old television idol. The
team forfeited their first game because their capable but spacy manager ('Ozone') didn't
know what day it was. After this adversity, The Mondellos came back to win all of their div
isional games, qualifying for the Independent -A league playoffs. They won their first three
playoff games marginally, averaging 30 points per game while allowing a stingy 14. The
powerful Mondello offense was commandeered by quarterback Jay Rodenburg. Jon Palm
and Mike Neary provided a wall of protection behind which Rodenburg rifled passes to
receivers Brad Zitek, Bill Weddle, Tim Duggan, Dwight Groth, Mike Borcher, and Venny
Beach.
The Independent-A final matched The Mondellos and The Pigskins, with The Mondellos
prevailing 21-20. Both teams advanced to the All-University tournament where several
fraternity and dormitory teams fell by the wayside. In the All-University final, The Mon
dellos again met The Pigskins and found themselves trailing 13-12 with only four plays
remaining in the game. Rodenburg overcame a hobbling injury to engineer their final drive,
hitting Brad Zitek at the Pigskin 10 yard line on second down. Zitek spun and threw to
Beach, who found Head-Mondello Duggan in the endzone for the deciding points. The
season ended with The Mondellos emerging on top of the 170-team league.
The champions heartily celebrated each victory, with the help of Coors Lite "Silver
Bullets." Six cases were shot following the championship game. Today, The Mondellos are
still enjoying their reign, not to mention Coors Lite.
