Klan-Nazi acquittal prompts today's demonstration
On Monday men allegedly identified as being members
of the Ku Klux Klan and Nazi parties were found inno
cent of the murders of five demonstrators in Greensboro,
N.C.
Tonight, at 8 in the Nebraska Union, a man close to
that situation will be speaking on the effects of that ac
quittal, the tie-in between the Klan .and the American
government and how citizens can react against the rise
of violence of such groups may perpetuate.
Nelson Johnson, known for his political activism and
speeches in the South, is being brought to UNL by the
Student Y. Coordinator Deresa Oliver who thought John
son would benefit students because there is a need for
people to be aware of Klan incidents.
"The government has given the Nazi's and the Klan a
license to kill innocent people," Oliver said in referance
to the trial.
"If the university wants to reach racial equality, they
should take a stand on this."
Johnson's arrival on campus is part of the reason be
hind a demonstration against racism which the Afrikan
People's and Progressive Students Union's will hold at
noon at the Broyhill Fountain.
"The government has taken the side of bigotry and
fascist murder," a press release said. "But we demand
that they listen to the people."
