Compacting dance, music, drama and craft events into one week allows people to use all of their senses in experi encing the arts, said Jackie Caventer, UPC City arts com mittee adviser. A program that permits the use of all the senses creates a bigger impact on a person than separate displays and per formances throughout the year, she said. This year's theme is unique, Caventer said. In 1976, a folk arts week was sponsored which was similar in format, but presented crafts characteristic to the folk culture, she said. Caventer said she hopes that such programs will be con tinued in the future. A jazz group will perform today at 5 pjn. in the Crib and the Men's Glee Club will perform Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in the union, Caventer said. One of the bigger events will be the East Campus Union Great Plains Room Arts and Crafts Fair. Marti Gocken, UPC East visual arts chairperson, said crafts such as glass blowing, bead work, hand-painted stationery and jewelry, puppets, dolls, quilts, hand-painted china and wood working will be displayed. Gocken didn't know if there would be any demonstra tions, but the artisans will be at the fair and will sell their items, she said. Caventer said that the pottery on display Thursday in the union Main Lounge will also be on sale. Following Sense the Arts Week, photography by Margaret McKichen will be on display for the remainder of the semester beginning next Monday, Caventer said. Books...
