Squad quality leads to selection
Last April. UNL was selected as the national head
quarters for the Arnold Air Society. Steven Vick
Commander of AAS, said UNL was chosen "because of
the people wc have in our squad."
The AAS is affiliated with the ROTC and only
members of ROTC are allowed to participate, Vick said.
"We are set up as an organization within ROTC We
are established as a charter for professionals because we
are for the officers. Our goals are to promote ROTC and
the Air Force itself." he said.
The AAS consists of six members: Vick as commander,
John Armstrong as vice commander, Ray Oitman, opera
tions. Warren Hingst, administrator; John Schuite, 'finance
officer; and Pat Ferguson, public relations. All six
members are seniors.
"Our job is to make sure that the jobs are getting done,
and that there is cohesiveness. We will be responsible
for the whole year. One of the service projects that we
are doing this year is environmental awareness. Wc will
be giving out energy tips and things of that nature."
The AAS headquarters will be located at UNL until
next April. Vick said. At that time there will be a con
vention in Colorado Springs, Colo., where the new
location ot the headquarters will be announced.
"Wc made our presentation against the University
of Southern California and the College of St. Thomas
at the convention that was held at Dallas, Texas last
year," he said.
