Krejci said his committee wanted to enter into a regional agreement because the federal government would be more apt to come up with funds. Hie original propos al was that half of the $30 million construction cost would be provided by federal dollars. Krejci added that the committee agreed with Schmit's proposal to build the school. Beutler asked Krejci why, after Nebraska had already committed itself to spending $7 million, it should go ahead and foot the whole bill. "How much leadership do these other states need?" Beutler asked. "Do they need to see the building sit ting on our land?" Krejci said there would be a legal obligation for other old west region states to come in with money and that Rep. Virginia Smith has said she wanted Neb raska to make a commitment to building before she makes a committment to seek federal funds. Pearson said although Iowa State would like to continue its contractual agreement with Nebraska, Iowa would support Nebraska would support Nebraska no matter what was decided. Pearson said it is an economic benfit to Iowa to continue to bring in out-of-state money.
