and eight new tower speakers with solid
state amplifiers.
The cost of the new Carillon is $19,000
financed by income from an endowed
fund established with the NU foundation
by the late Ralph Mueller, Cleveland,
Ohio. Mueller is an industrialist after
whom the tower is named.
At an original cost of $85,000, Mueller
Tower was dedicated in 1949 and, until a
few years ago, chimed at class breaks,
commencement excercises, honors convo
cations and after football and basketball
games.
Harley Schrader, director of NU's
physical plant said the carillon system
should be installed by the first of August
Richard Dennett, director of business
services, said the new system will be able
to play pre-programmed audio tapes of
carillon music. These selections will in
clude traditional Nebraska songs like
"Hail Varsity," "Dear Old Nebraska U,"
and "March of the Comhuskers."

Charles Klabunde stands beside one of his paintings. Klabunde's etchings, oil
paintings, and pencil drawings are on display at Sheldon Art Gallery through
July. Klabunde said several factors have influenced his work, including two
"near death experiences. Drawing saved my life, and now drawing is my life.
Drawing to me is what music is to a composer, a way of coping with reality."
