AS UN government drags its feet, doesn't keep up on vital issues, entangles it self in its own petty politics, reacts rather than acts, and serves itself before the student body. We owe- our thanks to the Regents and to the group of dedicated students who organized themselves and success fully pushed for a policy change that will be beneficial for all of UNL - and they did it WITHOUT ASUN! In closing, I must say that I enjoyed Mr.Gaba's insight in suggesting (April 25) that we abolish student elections and appoint Wessels Empress of UNL, though she might want to be King instead, and there are a few others that I would suggest as court jesters. We might also consider importing a few kangaroos to serve in lieu of student court, and establishing a separate fund for red carpet. The minimum goal of $25 million, established at the start of the three-year campaign in October, 1977, has been reached with still five months remaining, the Hardins said. The decision to adjust the goal was made by the Foundation's Solicitation Committee, according to J. Faulkner, chairman of the Board of Trustees. He cited several reasons for the revision including unmet needs, particularly in al goal; and the desire to give all alumni an opportun ity to participate in the campaign. Faulkner reported that $610,000 had been received toward the goal of $5 million for support of facul ty research fellowships, en dowed professorships, and visiting professorships. Improved library re sources, such as library ac quisitions on all three cam puses and the intercampus TV closed circuit, are still some $2 million short of their goal.
