The Residence Hall Association passed a resolution
Thursday supporting approval of the student tee
allocations for Fund A which the NU Board of Regents
failed to approve last Saturday.
Fund A provides money for the Daily Nebraskan,
ASUN and the University Program Council. The
resolution said 'these organizations provide essential
services to students and significantly contribute to the
overall environment of the University ."
ASUN senator Eric Torrison spoke to RIIA before
their vote, explaining that only $3.55 each semester from
student fees goes for Fund A, which is "not much consid
ering the programs we get. M
Torrison encouraged students to write letters to their
regents supporting the Fund A programs.

If we don't all rally together, we're going to lose a
lot of things," he said.
He said that if the regents do not approve the Fund A
allocations at their May 17 meeting, the Daily Nebraskan
may not be able to maintain its All-Amcrican status
Walpurgisnacht and Cornstock may not exist next year
the ASUN credit union and student legal services will no
longer exist and the speakers program will suffer, Torrison
said.
"Sure, a lot of them are controversial," Torrison said
of the speakers. But, he added. UPC has been very care
ful this year to provide a balanced speakers program.
The RHA resolution stated that "RHA is in unified
support" of the Fund A request and that the association
asks the regents who voted against Fund A to reconsider
their votes.
Corkie Kumpost, RHA president, said student leaders
have planned a campaign to convince the regents that
students want and need Fund A. This afternoon at Corn
stock on East Campus, there will be a booth where
students can pick up form letters to send to the regents
supporting the fees.
Similar letters and information will be put in residence
hall mailboxes and students will be encouraged to get
their parents to write to the regents.
Kumpost said many parents can be contacted on
Parents Day at some Greek houses this weekend. Letters
will be sent to Nebraska newspapers supporting the Fund
A allocations, he added.
Kumpost said copies of the resolution will be sent to
UNL Chancellor Roy A. Young, the regents, the director
of housing, ASUN and the Daily Nebraskan.
Damages near $1,000
in fraternity room fire
A fire which caused nearly $1,000 in damages swept
through a bedroom in the Ag Men fraternity house late
Tuesday night, according to Pete Sturher, chief investi
gator of the Fire Marshall's office.
Stumer said the fire, which began about 10 pjn.,
apparently was caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette.
A wall was destroyed completely, along with several
books and papers belonging to a fraternity member,
Sturner said.
