A group of Nebraska veterinarians have formed a
committee to support the proposed regional college of
veterinary medicine in Lincoln .
North Platte veterinarian Dr. Robert E. Bohlender,
committee chairman, said the group was formed to
show the public that many practicing veterinarians
support establishing such a college.
1 We feel that there is going t6 be a strong need for
more veterinarians in the future ,w Bohlender said. He
added that Nebraska has a strong network of excellent
veterinarians and the committee's goal is to see that
excellence continue. -
TTie group was formed because it believes there is
an unfounded indication within the public that
practicing veterinarians are opposed to the college
Bohlender said. , i ': 1

The. proposed college would serve Nebraska,
Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.
Half of the estimated $30 million cost must be paid
by the federal government and two of the five states
must agree to provide financing before construction
will begin. Nebraska share will be about $7 million.
All of the state's livestock industries have already
indicated their support, he said, along with the veterin
arians. Another veterinarian on the 13-member committee
said that even though the issue has been controversial,
he still believes the college is needed.
Dr. JD. Little, of Wahoo, said that many spinoffs,
such as research benefits, can be expected from the
proposed college along with support for the livestock
industry.
