ual is Big Eight preparation
Bentz: Friday KUd
The UNL men's swimming and diving
team will host defending Big Eight
champion Kansas in a dual at the Bob
Devaney Sports Center Friday night.
The Huskers are coming off a weekend
which saw them defeat Oklahoma 71 42 at
Norman, and have another meet against
Texas Christian University at ort Worth
canceled because of poor weather and road
conditions.
The Jayhawks have captured the Big
Eight swimming title the last two years.
Earlier this year, KU beat the Huskers,
7142. The Jayhawks' well-balanced team
is led by Steve Graves, last year's Big Eight
Swimmer of the Year. Graves swims the
breaststroke events and the individual
medley.
Winning Friday's meet, although nice,
isn't the Huskers' major goal, however,
according to Husker Coach Cal bentz.
"You have to put the meets in
perspective; this is only a. dual. The
upcoming Big Eight meet is more
important, we feel. Wc hope to use this
dual to improve our times in preparation
for that meet."
The Huskers main strength is diving.
The divers have had things their own way
in Big Eight competition so far, and should
continue to, according to Bentz.
Our conference isn't as strong in diving
as it is in the swimming events," he said,
but added, "Of course I'm not saying that
our divers, all of whom have aualifled for
the nationals, are not excellent, t &
Lance Green and Scott Hinrichs, who
won the one- and three-meter diving
respectively at Norman, will head the rest
of the talented Husker divers.
