Photo by Mitch Hrdlicka Husker wrestler Tim Neumann puts the clutch on Colorado's Mike Bertram in the 167-pound class Neumann pinned Bertram and helped the Huskers defeat the 1 1th ranked Buffaloes 24-14 Friday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Nebraska won all but three matches, including Neumann's pin. Saturday however, the Huskers were downed 21-14 by South Dakota State in Brookings, S.D. UNL gymnasts defeat Jayhawks Although Husker gymnast Jim Hartung set three Nebraska scoring records, and the Nebraska men's gymnastics team easily beat Kansas Saturday in Lawrence, Husker Head Coach Francis Allen said he was not entirely pleased with the outcome of the meet. Nebraska had scored 275 points two weeks earlier, beating No. 1 ranked Iowa State and No. 2 ranked Oklahoma in Lincoln . Allen had high hopes of surpassing 275-possibly reaching as high as 280. However, Nebraska scored 274.7 to Kansas' 195.4. Allen said the lack of pressure and the on-the-road meet stopped the Huskers from scoring higher. "We just lost the context of the meet," Allen said. "The 274 was admirable under the conditions we were in. We were under no pressure and couldn't seem to put to gether a good team score." Hartung, who finished ninth in the Olympic World Games last fall, set three Nebraska scoring records with a 9.75 on the pommel horse, 9 J on rings and took the all around win for a record 57.1 5 score. Freshman teammate Phil Cahoy won the horizontal bar with a record 9.85. It was the first time in three meets that Hartung edged out Cahoy for the all around honors. Against Colorado in a dual, and then against Iowa State and Oklahoma in a triangular, Cahoy beat Hartung by less than one point. Yet, Allen has maintained that Hartung still is the stronger of the two gymnasts, but was "burned out" after the World Games last fall in Houston. "He is now on the upswing " Allen said. Iran.,. Continued from page 1 He said the media portrayed the three Kansans as "traitors" and were described as "Marxists or . Communists" in Kansas. He criticized the media for depicting the Iranian people as people who march everyday and where uprisings, revolutions and riots take place constantly. He said he watched ABC news editors put together films of marches that were days old. In fact, he said, "You've seen more marches here than the Iranian people have in the last four months." During their visit, he said they were intimidated and threatened by the press and were warned they could face possible indictment for treason. Instead of trying to see the hostages. Dillingham said the committee concentrated on making headway for another group that would have credibility. He said that the resolution committee was primarily responsible for negotiating with the students to let American clergy in for Christmas. President jerked The politics of the Iranian situation were seen as a complicating factor by Dillingham. Dillingham said President Carter was told by thousands of advisors that allowing the shah into the country would definitely result in some threat against Americans. A student asked Dillingham if the shall should have been sent to Iran for trial. Dillingham said the committee found ''probable cause" to try the shah . But, he said he was told by Ghotbzadeh that Iran had Strong to keep UNL post UNL Law College Dean John Strong said Friday he has decided not to accept the deanship of the Oregon Law School, citing his reluctance to accept a job with increased administrative duties. Tve never thought of myself as a career administra tor," Strong said. Strong was interviewed by an Oregon search committee last week. He said he decided to stay late Thursday after noon, and has informed college and UNL officials. Strong's decision followed speculation among Law College faculty that he would accept the offer, prompting several faculty members to encourage him to stay. Ron Ortman Was the onlv KII evmnast in srr in the. top three. Ortman took the third spot in parallel bars (9.0) and tied with NU's Scott Johnson, who is coming off of a shoulder injury , in vaulting with a 9 5 . Hartung and Cahoy will travel to Baton Rouge, La Friday for the Mardi Gras Invitational, where the six top male and female gymnasts will compete. .The two will then join the rest of the Nebraska team in Oklahoma for a dual with the Sooners at 2 p jn. Hayward won the 500 free-style (5:11.84), 100 back stroke (1:02.47) and 200 backstroke (2:08.28) while Sullivan had wins in the 50 freestyle (:25.08) and 100 freestyle (:53.91). Dillingham paraphrased Ghotbzadeh as saying that to kill the shah would just give Iran another corpse and they had had enough corpses to last a lifetime. Dillingham was told by Ghotbzadeh that Iran may be able to help the shah find asylum after a trial. To understand the full situation, Dillingham said Americans must understand the passion of Iranians on the issue. QUICK ... where can you save lotsa $$$ every Tuesday?
