Charles Thone, UNL's Affirmative Action officer said. Bradley Munn said the funds would be used for modi fication of existing structures, lie said a task force has been working with Jim Money, manager of deferred mainten ance and fire and life safety at the UNL Physical Rant, to come up with physical improvements that would be an asset for the total Nebraska community, not just UNL students. A major portion of the money will be used to build restrooms on the first floor of Kimball Recital Hall. To make the recital hall accessible to the general public and students, $27,500 has been allocated. Another portion includes $38,500 for elevator re placement in Avery Hall, an entry ramp on the south entrance of the Former Law building and restroom modi fications in C.Y. Thompson library, Love library, Henz likHall and Morrill Hall. Correction . The seminar, "La Chicana: Past, Present and Future" will be presented Feb. 5 from 1 1 :30 ajn. to 1 p jn. at the Culture Center. The Daily Nebraskan Tuesday incorrectly reported the seminar would be Feb. 4, "Much, if not all, of this work should be completed by next fall, Munn said. Munn said there is increased attendance in universities across the country, the result of a new federal law which states that all programs must be accessible to handicapped students. , "This doesnt mean that all buildings have to have ramps and elevators, but rather that if a handicapped stu dent wanted to take a class on the third floor of an inaccessible building, we would move the class to where it would be accessible, Munn said. . Munn said UNL is as accessible as any other university in the country that is more than 100 years old. , "Of course, any of the new buildings will be construct ed as accessible for the handicapped, so they are better, but you cant just tear down all of the older buildings, just because they're inaccessible, Munn said. Buildings improved Any buildings constructed with federal funds offer no problems for handicapped students, whether the buildings be sports complexes, grammar schools or university halls, because they all must be accessible to the handicapped, Munn said. "I think were seeing a new horizon in terms of more funds available to universities to improve their facilities for handicapped students, Munn said. The Affirmative Action office located in the Adminis tration Building also aids handicapped students in provid ing tutors and, when necessary, reserves parking spaces for those with severe restrictions on their mobility. "Well probably never have a perfect university in terms of accessibility, but the old philosophy of handi capped students not welcome on university campuses is no longer present, were glad to say, Munn said. "What's important here is the immediate constituents of our efforts, Munn said. "We are always trying to be pro-active and do all for the handicapped students needs if they will let us know what they are." Physics organization president from UNL Robert C.
