Life with neurotic torn
The week of January 21-25 has been de
clared Respect Life week by Gov. Charles
Thone. Respect life. Do we? More than 1
million abortions are performed each year.
If the life inside the mother's womb is a
human life - a tiny, tiny boy or girl, then
millions of babies are being killed each
year. Biologically, there is no question that
this life is human. The First International
Conference on Abortion held in October
1967, composed of authorities in the fields
of biochemistry, obstetrics and gyne
cology, and genetics, concluded "Our
group could find no point in time between
conception and the birth of. the infant at
which point that we could say this was not
a human life." No other more qualified
body of scientists has come to a different
conclusion. Since we know this is human
life, can anyone justify killing it? Only a,
society that values convenience over the
dignity of human life could allow this.
Only we can change this attitude by stand
ing up for those innocent babies who can
not speak for themselves.

matter of fact, he was probably a little
neurotic on top of all his other problems.
It didn't matter. I loved him.
There was no way I could afford to pay
his doctdr bills, and there was no way I was
ready to make the decision to put him to
sleep. When he wanted to go outside again,
I decided just to let him.
I sulked around the house for a while,
completely forgetting a date. When she
arrived, wide-eyed, with a bottle of wine,
dinner in a bag and glad tidings, I respond
ed with a barely audible, The cat's dead."
I mistook her look for empathy. She
said, "If this isn't typical, I don't know
what is. I come all set for a romantic even
ing and you tell me that the cat's dead. .
Me wasn't. I saw him a few days ago,
seemingly very strong. Hell be back for
dinner tonight. Several friends tell me that
it's just a. matter of time before he gets
torn up again and possibly killed over a
mating or territorial dispute. Tom cats can
cause a lot of grief that way. They tell me
that his only chance for survival is to have
him neutered. I have a feeling that if I had
him neutered he'd probably jump me in a
dark alley and neuter me.
There is not really much to do. I sup
pose the relationship will remain one of
distance. I have a lot of those. But from
now on it's going to be difficult to fool
myself about it when I'm fighting down an
impending sense of loss.
The tentative ASUN student fee alloca
tion for 1980-81 is $38,908, a cut from
its 1 979-80 allocation of $39,502.
The Committee for Fees Allocation
approved the new budget late Tuesday
night. Specific cuts were made to first and
second ASUN vice-presidents' salaries.
Currently both vice presidents receive $140
per month, or $1,120 per year. The salary
for the first vice-president was decreased to
$110 per month, or $880 per year. The se
cond vice-president will receive $95 per
month, or $760 for the year.
, The committee also moved that $500
should be deleted from the ASUN budget
request for a new photocopier. This por
tion of the total cost of $3,147 for the
photocopier will now come from one of
AS UN's non-student fee accounts.
